Tesla, Inc.
Tesla makes electric vehicles, energy storage and solar, and sells software such as Full Self-Driving as an option on that installed base. The manufacturing story is vertical integration and scale in batteries and assembly. The public report must not confuse a high stock-market narrative with a wide consumer-staples moat.
Automotive is cyclical, price-competitive and capex-heavy. Tesla's margins have at times been far above legacy OEMs; they have also compressed when the firm cut prices to hold volume. Energy and services are smaller but strategically important. Regulatory credits have been a material earnings line in some years.
The balance sheet has improved versus the 2018 survival phase, but this is still an industrial company with model and factory ramp risk. Valuation often prices a robotics or autonomy option that the radar cannot see as a cash flow today.
"Scale in EV manufacturing and battery production, plus software and charging network effects among Tesla owners, are the real advantages. Brand is strong with a subset of buyers and polarising with others. The moat is narrower than a payments duopoly: other OEMs can and do sell competitive EVs, and Chinese manufacturers compete on cost. Autonomy software could widen the moat if it becomes a high-margin attached service — that remains an if. Do not write Tesla as if it already owned the future of transport."

Health has improved with cash generation but can still look weaker than a software compounder on interest coverage and working capital. Quality is mixed: high ROIC in boom years, much less so when prices fall. Growth can be explosive or stall with demand and mix. Valuation is frequently the weakest axis because the equity price discounts a long optionality tail. Shareholder return is not a dividend story; dilution and compensation design matter as much as buybacks.
P/E is almost useless in isolation when earnings swing with credits, crypto-era one-offs, or price cuts. EV/EBITDA and FCF yield through a full vehicle cycle are more honest. Gross margin is the operating tell. ROIC should be compared with other manufacturers, not with Visa. If the cache is empty you will see dashes, not a fake '0x' multiple.
Not advice. Tesla combines an auto cycle, a technology option and a personality-driven news flow that no five-axis model prices. Yahoo data can miss credits and one-offs. Vaultflake will not tell you whether FSD is worth the software multiple. You can be right on the product and still lose on the entry price.
